How we work

Every platform in our ranking gets used, hands-on, before it gets scored. We rate on the same five criteria each time: conversation quality, voice, image generation, content freedom, and access and value. The weights and definitions live in our methodology, in the open, so you can check any score against the reasons for it.

Scores are editorial Our numbers are our own considered opinion, clearly labeled as such. We never invent user counts, testing-hours statistics, testimonials, or third-party star aggregates.
Update cadence Features and published pricing for every ranked platform are re-checked on a regular editorial cycle, and each page carries a real freshness stamp.
Corrections policy Spot an error, a stale price, a changed feature? Email [email protected] and we will fix it, fast.

DreamDate Reviews is written and maintained by Luna Marchetti, our Lead Reviewer, and the DreamDate Reviews editorial desk, operated by the team behind Swipey AI. Luna is our illustrated editorial persona, not a stock-photo bio or a claim to be an outside expert. The people comparing these platforms are the people building one of them, and we say so on every page.

Her job is simple and unglamorous: open each app, use it hands-on the way a real person would, and score it against the same published criteria every time, from first message to voice, images, video, calls, live mode and value. Where a rival fits a particular need better, or simply costs less, she writes that down too.

Why trust a site owned by a vendor?

A fair question, and the honest answer is: don't take it on trust. Verify it.

  • The criteria are published. Every score maps to the methodology on the homepage; nothing is graded on vibes alone.
  • We name the trade-offs. Swipey costs more than most rivals and its free tier is thinner: Character.AI and Janitor AI are free to use, and several rivals are cheaper. We say so, in writing, on our own pages.
  • Everything is checkable. Feature claims and pricing come from each platform's own published materials, and our corrections inbox is open when we get one wrong.
  • The disclosure never hides. It sits beside the rankings, in the footer, in article footers, and here, in plain words.
